Mrs. Shirley Jean Mellon, 79, of Oxford, Alabama entered into rest on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at 1:58pm at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28, 2023. A visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 2:00pm with a Funeral Service in the Toby Miller Chapel at 2:00pm. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Cody Hale will be officiating. Shirley was born on June 21, 1943, in Talladega, Alabama. She went to school at Winterboro High School. She worked at Palm Beach for 5 years. She also worked at Parker Memorial for years at their daycare. She raised many children at her home for years. Shirley married her high school sweetheart Billy Joe Mellon. They would have been married 63 years on July 2nd. They have two daughters, Sherri Akers and Sharron Mellon. They have lived in Oxford the last 56 years. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved being outside in her younger years, camping, beaching, and the mountains. She has enjoyed raising grandkids and great grandkids in her later years. She loved to watch game shows and color in her free time. Shirley was a member of Grace Baptist Church for years where she accepted Jesus as her savior. She was very active in church. Her last years she was a member of Iron City Baptist Church. She loved her Sunday school class and her church family. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Billy Joe Mellon; daughters, Sherri Akers and Sharron Mello; 4 grandkids, Courtney Craft Rinehart (Cory), Jesse Akers, Dusty Akers, Kristen Akers Boozer (Zach); 3 great grandkids, Seth Rinehart, Sophia Boozer, Isaiah Boozer; brothers and sisters, Larry Ferguson, Steve Ferguson, Jim Haney, Sue Haynes (Ray), Kathy Harris, Nina Smith, Ruby Poe, Joyce Hutchins and Carolyn Harris. Shirley is preceded in death by her mother, Charlsey Gable Haney; father, Frank Ferguson; grandparents, Ed and Ellen Ferguson; brothers, Billy Haney, Donald Haney, Jerry Haney; sister, Linda Spirlin.
