MILDRED LUCILLE “ELLISON” BOODY August 6, 1927 - March 13, 2026 Mildred Ellison Boody was born August 6, 1927 in Cleburne County, Alabama. The oldest of five children, she grew up working in the fields her family tended. At the age of nineteen, she was working at the Post Exchange at Fort McClellan when she met her future husband of fifty-seven years, Allan Boody, Together they had three children, Robert, Wayne and Deborah. As the wife of a career soldier, Mildred led and cared for her family through her husband’s lengthy absences during the Korea and Vietnam wars, as well as moves throughout the United States and world. As a family, they lived in South Carolina, Colorado, the Panama Canal Zone and Japan, where Mildred was afforded experiences not often seen by a daughter of sharecroppers in rural Alabama. After her husband’s retirement from the Army in 1971, Mildred and Allan lived in Mobile, Alabama, Columbus and Toccoa, Georgia before settling down on twenty acres of property on Turkey Haven Mountain in Cleburne County in 1976. They enjoyed a very active retirement. Mildred loved to bowl and was an avid golfer, often playing Cane Creek Golf Course four to five times a week, always walking the links without the aid of a cart. She and Allan also loved to ride motorcycles traveling the Southeast, out West and even to Canada. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren card games like bridge and rummy, which the grandchildren enjoy and remember to this day. She could often be found gardening on their property, with beds of flowers and patches of blueberries through the yard. Almost daily, Mildred would enjoy morning walks with her husband, dog, and grandchildren, trekking down and back up the mountain while taking in the morning air. She was an avid coffee drinker, had a sweet tooth, and delighted in visits from her family. Mildred taught her family the importance of loyalty and steadfastness in the face of uncertainty. She passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026 in Anniston, Alabama at the age of ninety-eight. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Allan, her parents Lee and Myrtle Ellison, brothers Raybon, Cleophus and Mancil Ellison, and brother-in-law, Earl Langley and sister-in-law, Dollie Ellison. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Linda) and Wayne Boody (Teresa), her daughter, Deborah Mangham (Michael), seven grandchildren, Melissa Sherman (Ryan), Malinda Nichols (Zack), Mike Boody (Jessica), Christopher Boody (Stasi), Josh Boody (Rachel), Craig Mangham and Matthew Mangham (Julie); Sister, Jeanette Langley; sister-in-laws, Lenora Ellison and Jean Ellison; as well as twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, the Cleburne County Nursing Home and a special thanks to Kimberly Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, Project R3CON or a charity of choice. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
