Mr. Loral D. Light, (L.D.), 89, of Oxford, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford. Funeral service will be Friday, December 23, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church in Oxford. Officiating the service will be Rev. Scott Smith and Rev. Garry Sims, with a special tribute to L.D.’s life shared by his son, Jimmy Light. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Addie Mae; children, Jimmy Light (Lisa) of Oxford; Charlotte Curry (Tommy) of Marion; Marla Carlisle of Opelika; Aaron Creed (Wanda) of Rockford; Sidina Shore (Reuben) of Statesboro; Anthony Creed (April) of Las Vegas, along with 11 grandchildren, Tara Harbison (Jason), Steven Curry (Jennifer), Michael Murphy, Crystal Curry, Dustin Carlisle (Christin), Robert Creed (Allison), Chris Creed (Brandy), Donald Creed, Dovie Luckado, Tony Creed, and Rita Ankerich (Shawn), Brandyl Pollard (Paul) along with 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Belvin and Clarice Light, and brother Charles Light. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Faith Fellowship Sunday Class, Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. Light was born in Henagar, Alabama, on September 11, 1927, but was a resident of Oxford for most of his life. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe just after World War II. L.D. was also a founding member of the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Chief. Later, he retired from the Anniston Army Depot after 37 years of dedicated employment as an inspector. Mr. Light was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church for over 42 years, where he served as a loyal servant, head greeter, and an inspiration to others. He dearly loved his church family. Proudly, he was known as “Papa” to all his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even those who were not; he loved them all, and they him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who met him. Papa will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Gentiva Hospice.
