Larry Ray

Charles Larry Ray passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Regional Medical Center, Anniston, Alabama, on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Larry was born to Ara and John D. Ray on April 27, 1938 in Oxford, Alabama, where he was raised and lived his entire life. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1956 and then attended Southern Union College. He met Sylvia Brock while in high school and they married a few short years later, in 1958. After graduation, Larry returned to Oxford and worked in a foundry for many years before becoming a Sales Representative for Borden Chemical Company, where he worked for over thirty years, before retiring. By 1963, Larry and Sylvia had three strong sons, to whom Larry was a devoted father. He was an active member of his community as an avid little league coach for his boys, a volunteer for The Salvation Army, and a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church. He also held an honorable position as a member of the Freemason Society. Larry, “PawPaw,” as he was known to loved ones, is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia Ray, his brother, Jerry Ray (Jean) of Oxford, Alabama and his three sons, Scott Ray (Melodee) of Huntsville, Brock Ray of Oneonta and Jeff Ray of Oxford. He is preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Roark and great-grandaughter, Sailor Grace Borrelli. He leaves six grandchildren, Austin Ray of Huntsville, Colby Ray (Andee) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Courtney Ray of Oneonta, Connor Ray of Birmingham, Ali Ray of Oneonta, and Kirby Ray of Oxford. He also leaves two great-grandchildren, Braxxon Borrelli and Bronxyn Ray. He also leaves nephews Heath Ray and Chad Ray (Shellie) and children, Kayli and Jackson Ray of Oxford, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends. Larry will be profoundly missed by his family, but they have peace in knowing that he is at home with his Savior, who he loved and served. He will be remembered as a gracious, honorable and devoted man, husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and friend to so many. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Lakeview Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at noon. In
