Alberta Hampton-Jackson, 97, of Eastaboga, AL passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 7,1928 in Troy, AL and was the beloved daughter of the late Eddie Mae Pearson and Patrick Henry Hampton. She was predeceased by her late husband, Marion Jackson; children, Lillian Pryor Johnson, Ralph Johnson, and Albert Johnson; siblings, Lurlene Olivia Hampton Curtis McGrady, William Henry Hampton, Alberta L. Hampton Hardrick, and James Arthur; and by her favorite first cousin and best friend, Ruth Mae Wilson. Alberta moved to Springfield, MA when she was a teenager and graduated from Springfield Technical High School.She began building a life defined by courage, ambition, and an unshakeable sense of self. She worked tirelessly to provide her children with a stable, culturally rich upbringing. She put them through college and dance school, believing deeply in education, discipline, and the arts as pathways to confidence and opportunity. She later retired after 25 years of dedicated service from United Technologies in Windsor, CT. Alberta was known among family, friends, and relatives for her famous ribs and barbeque sauce and her homemade ice cream which became the centerpiece of countless family picnics, reunions, and Sunday dinners. Her cooking brought people together and her table was always a place of laughter, storytelling, and belonging. Alberta will be remembered for her work ethic, honesty, and refusal to be overlooked or underestimated. She was a trailblazer in every sense, triumphing after being denied many opportunities. She prevailed and her victory marked proud moments of progress for her family and her community. She was also a successful property owner in Springfield, MA. In her later years, Alberta returned to Alabama, settling in Eastaboga, where she enjoyed a quieter life rooted in family, memories, and the familiar comfort of the South. Above all, Alberta was an exceptional mother. Fierce didn’t even begin to describe her. She protected her children with the intensity of a mother bear guarding her cubs. The family, in pure love and admiration, nicknamed her “The Gorilla,” not because she was loud or wild, but because when it came to her children’s safety, dignity, and future, she was unstoppable. Anyone who tried to block her babies’ path learned quickly that she did not bluff, she did not bend, and she did not back down. She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters; Brenda Jackson Treadwell-Wright of Chicopee, MA and Gloria (Jack) Johnson of Eastaboga, AL; three grandchildren; Ralph Johnson, Jr., Crystal Rivera, and Samuel Thomas; five great grandchildren, Kacey Thomas, Derrick Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Chase Johnson and Madison Johnson; two sisters, Mary Dean Hampton and Pearline Hampton-McClure; and one brother, Patrick Hampton, Jr. Her legacy is one of courage, outspokenness, progress, and boundless love. She leaves behind a story that will continue to inspire generations and proof that one woman’s determination can open doors, challenge injustice, uplift her children, and shape the future for all who follow. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home, Crematory, and Aquamation Center. A service will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Following the service, a burial will take place at Dogwood Trail Memorial Gardens.
