Sarah Ruth Dempsey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sarah Ruth “MawMaw” Dempsey passed away on July 3, 2022, while under Amedisys Hospice Care at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, Preston & Ophelia Dabbs; husband, Reverend Odis Ray Dempsey; brothers, Robert “Buck” Dabbs, Howard Dabbs, and Jimmy Dabbs; sisters, Margaret Prater and Sadie Knight. She is survived by her sons, Randy Dempsey (Lisa), Keith Dempsey (Amy), Blake Dempsey (Jenny), and Dean Dempsey (Kim); grandchildren, Ryan Dempsey (Lauren), Daniel Dempsey (Laura), Anna Anaganostopoulos (Nicholas), Kristen Seabolt (John), Kyle Dempsey (Kailah), Jared Dempsey, Brad Dempsey, and Micah Dempsey; great grandchildren, Parker Dempsey, Sawyer Dempsey, Ryanne Addyson Dempsey, Emaline Anaganostopoulos, and Riggs Dempsey; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. Sarah was born on July 10, 1932, in Munford, Alabama. She grew up living in the Buckhorn Community of Munford. She attended Munford schools and married Ray on January 20, 1951. They moved to Oxford where they raised their 4 sons. She was a long time faithful member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church of Oxford where she served in the kitchen daycare. While working at the daycare she became affectionately known as “MawMaw.” Her passions were cooking, singing, family, and church. She loved southern Gospel music and sang for church services and revivals. She was especially proud of her 4 sons and their families who will miss her dearly. She is now proudly reunited in her Heavenly home with Ray and all of her family members. Funeral Services for Sarah Ruth Dempsey will be Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church of Oxford. Visitation will be held from 12pm-1pm with a funeral service at 1pm and a graveside service following at Anniston Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Reverend Tommy Reaves and Reverend Keith Dempsey. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ryan Dempsey, Daniel Dempsey, Jared Dempsey, Brad Dempsey, Micah Dempsey, and Kyle Dempsey. The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to the staffs of Amedisys Hospice Care, Cleburne County Nursing Home, and Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center for the loving care provided by them during her final days. The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church of Oxford.
