A funeral service for Mr. Revy Lee Higgins Sr., 90 of Oxford, will be on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 2:30 pm in the Toby Miller Chapel at Miller Funeral Home with Craig King officiating. A burial will follow the service at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on the same day from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Mr. Higgins passed away on January 8, 2021 at his home. He is survived by his children, Revy Lee Higgins Jr. (Leigh), Mickey Higgins (Vera) of Wilmington, NC, Hope Smallwood of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Trey Higgins, Madison Angle, Tracy Mangum (Hardy) of Brandon, MS, Mick Higgins of Wilmington, NC, Jamie Higgins (Melody) of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Kelly Mangum of Brandon, MS, Heath Higgins of Wilmington, NC, Hayden Higgins of Wilmington, NC and Carly Higgins of Wilmington, NC; siblings, Helen Parker, Audrey ‘Mousey’ B. Higgins, Billy Higgins (Greta) of Tallapoosa, GA, and a host of extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Higgins; parents, Revy and Flora Higgins and 10 siblings. Pallbearers will be Trey Higgins, Chris Randall, Rex Cortez, Vince Floyd, Bobby Welch and Jason Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Poore, Steve Christopher, Roby Brooks, J.J. Pruitt, Tim Embry, Danny Payton and Steven Trotter. Mr. Higgins attended school at ABIS where he learned to play baseball. He served his country proudly as a United States Marine in the Korean Conflict. He served from 1948-1952. He also received the Korean Service Medal along with the UN Service Medal. Mr. Higgins was a longtime little league coach. He coached baseball and fast pitch softball. He was able to coach several men whose children, and even grandchildren, went on to be great athletes. Mr. Higgins was inducted into the Blue Gray Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1991. He was very proud of his son and grandson for all of the baseball and football achievements they had accomplished. Mr. Higgins played cards professionally and was very successful but at the same time, he had a giving heart and would help those who needed it. Mr. Higgins had a quick wit and always a good story to tell. He was well known, well liked and a one of a kind man. He will be truly missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
