Funeral service for Mrs. Merle Deese Preston will be on Monday, October 9, 2023, at 12:00pm in the Toby Miller Chapel at Miller Funeral Home. Brother Tim Lynch and Minister Verlon Carrell will be officiating. A burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time at the funeral home the same day. Mrs. Merle Deese Preston, 94 of Oxford Alabama passed away at NEARMC on Thursday October 5, 2023. Survivors include daughter, Linda P. Kennedy; granddaughter, Ginger Nail Carrell (Verlon); grandson, Jason Nail (Amy); great granddaughter, Devon Nail Turner (Caleb); great grandsons, Blake Carrell (Kaylee), Bryant Carrell, Brady Carrell (Justice); great great granddaughter to arrive in December, Baby Cosette; sisters, Carolyn Brockmiller (Bill) and Sandra Clair (Al); along with a host of several nieces, nephews and other family members. Mrs. Merle Deese Preston is preceded in death by her husband, Wardie Preston; parents, Enos Jospeh and Willie Alice Deese; brothers, Homer Deese, Hulen Deese, Paul Deese; sisters, Syble Williams and Sara Jo Deese. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Mrs. Preston retired as a seamstress and was a volunteer pink lady at the hospital for 38 years. She also volunteered at the Meals on Wheels and the Calhoun County Baptist Association (The Christian Center). She was lifelong member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Oxford Alabama and was also known as one of the three musketeers (The three M’s) and loved her church family very much. She enjoyed spending time talking on the phone with her special friends and family members. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers and pecan trees. She loved cooking meals for her family and others, especially Christmas breakfast with her fresh homemade biscuits and ham. She would be so busy cooking and serving others, she put their needs before hers. She enjoyed receiving her special delivery of double yolk eggs and homemade sausage from the Georgia family. She had a lot of special friends that she held dear to her heart. The family stated that she had a servant’s heart and would do anything for anybody. The family would like to send a special thank you to her neighbors for tending to her flowers and watching after her house and R.N. Sandy Vick at NEARMC.
