    Mrs. Mattie Lee 'MawMaw' Edmondson Strickland

    February 18, 1950 - January 2, 2021

    Graveside memorial services for Mrs. Mattie Lee “MawMaw” Edmondson Strickland, 70, of Lineville, will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Dingler’s Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Bruce Willis officiating. Mrs. Strickland passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking. Her specialty was her made from scratch spaghetti. She loved to get her grandchildren together and go junking. Her favorite hobby was fishing and she made sure all of her children learned to fish. She very much enjoyed her volunteer work at the Carey Baptist Thrift Store. Mattie was always looking for an opportunity to lend a helping hand to others. She enjoyed going to the casino. She received the most enjoyment just being with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At Christmas she enjoyed carrying on Christmas traditions with her family. Mattie loved her dog Bella. She was an avid Auburn fan. She was a Baptist by faith. Mrs. Strickland is survived by three daughters, Vicky Miles (Melissa) of Saks, Jona Ackles (Martin) of Ashland, and Jana Bishop (Josh) of Ashland; two sons, Tim Miles (Lolly) of Lineville and Jesse Patterson of Millerville; thirteen grandchildren, Chris Brown, Jacob Miles, James Lashley, Kimberly Miles, Christina Miles, Jayland Ackles (Shawnna) Jordan Ackles, Terri Bush (Nathan) Mekali Ackles, Katelyn Thornton, Alex Tucker (Andrew) Jaylee Bishop, and Jaxon Bishop; six great-grandchildren, Emma Lashley, Malorie Ackles, Brantley Bush, Brody Bishop, Peyton Gallups and Arianna Tucker; five sisters, Liz Watts of Barfield, Ruth Watts of Ashland, Pearl Parker of Ashland, Ruby Ingram of Lineville and Dot Edmondson of Ashland; and one brother, James Edmondson of Lineville; her step family, Norma Prather and family, Debra Adamson and family, Linda Watts and family, Donald “Tiger” Strickland and family and Tonya Mask and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wilson Edmondson and Lessie Maybelle Baker Edmondson; her husband, June Strickland; the father of her children, John Junior Will Miles; infant daughter, Myra Lee Miles; granddaughters, Denah Bishop and Krista Lashley; great-grandsons, Bentley Ackles, Braxton Middendorf, and Vincent Pollock; niece, Rhonda Daugherty; nephews, David Ingram, Larry James Pinkard, Jr., and Josh Edmondson; special nephew, David Edmondson; and sister, Willie Faye Daugherty. Mrs. Strickland’s family requires each person that attends the memorial service to wear a face covering. Clay County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
