    Mr. Jimmy Mitchell

    January 4, 1939 - February 13, 2022

A private service will be announced at a later date for Mr. Jimmy Mitchell, 83, from Oxford, Alabama. Mr. Jimmy Mitchell passed peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2022 surrounded by family. He was proceeded in death by his Wife, Theresa Mitchell, parents, Herbert and Alice Mitchell; his brothers, William (Bill) Mitchell, Gerald Mitchell and Albert "Snooky" Mitchell and his sisters Doris Robinson and Dorothy Mitchell. Left to cherish his memories are his Son, Keith (Nancy) Mitchell and his Daughter, Aliece (James Paul) Dice and Granddaughter McKenna Mitchell. Jimmy retired from National Gypsum in Oxford, Alabama in 2004. He served in the United States Air Force in the Strategic Air Command. During his time, he was stationed at Chanute AFB in Illinois, Plattsburgh AFB in New York, and Thule AFB in Greenland. Jimmy was a wonderful and devoted father, husband and friend. He always taught his children to stand tall, be proud, and supported us all throughout the many accomplishments and difficulties of our lives. He had an incredible work ethic, never met a stranger, loved the Lord and was always very active in his church, loved everyone he met, loved his country, forgave generously, was patient, and loved his family and friends. He enjoyed ham radio (KA4RDV), loved to fish, and also loved to tell stories about being in the Air Force. His favorite place to go fishing was Lake Wedowee and his friends always said he knew Lake Wedowee like “the back of his hand”. He also loved to hold an annual “fish fry” where he would share his bounty of crappie with family and friends (which he enjoyed immensely). He was a Mason and also a past member of Dallas Lodge #228 in Chulafinnee. Towards the end of his life, he enjoyed living full-time in a RV and enjoyed the freedom it provided to see the sights. He enjoyed a fishing trip to Canada, took many trips with his loving Wife, and was a true hero to his Son and Daughter. The family would also like to express deepest gratitude and appreciate to Compassus Hospice of Birmingham for all the comfort, care, love and attention to our father in his last days. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider making donations in Jimmy’s honor to the local colon cancer group: Rumpshaker, Inc. by clicking this link and donating to their annual 5k that will be held March 26th, 2022 - https://runsignup.com/Race/15092/Donate/
