Mr. Jessie Thompson

February 17, 1941 - April 25, 2020

A funeral service for Mr. Jessie Thompson, 79 of Oxford, will be on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the Toby Miller Chapel at Miller Funeral Home. A burial will take place after the service at Forestlawn Memorial Gardens. Pastor Jeff Steward will be officiating. The family will receive friends on the same day from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Mr. Thompson passed away on April 25, 2020 at home after a long illness. He is survived by his children, Danny Thompson, Lisa Tanner, Cathy Skinner (Louis); sister, Martha Faulk (Buddy) of Ozark; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Ozark, Alabama, Jessie relocated to Oxford when he married his lifetime sweetheart, Jeannie Rose Champion. They were married for 49 years and raised three children together. Jessie was an over the road truck driver for 38 years and dispatcher for 5 years retiring out with over 5 million miles accident free. Jessie loved spending time with his family, enjoyed the lake, gardening and watching Alabama football. Jessie was a veteran of the US Army where he was an expert marksman. He was active in the Elks Lodge #189 until he became ill. He was Methodist by faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie C. Thompson; parents, Jessie Daniel and Verna Lee Thompson; brothers, Marcus and Curtis Thompson, and a sister, Geraldine Fain all of Ozark. Pallbearers will be Danny Thompson, Matthew Garner, Chris Thompson, Ross Pace, Mark Champion and Alan Petty. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Hanna, Encompass Health Staff with special thanks to his nurse, Kristin Rivers, who went above and beyond the call of duty. They would also like to thank his daytime caregiver, Paige McDonald. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Jimmy Hale Mission or The Salvation Army.
