Services for James Melvin Ford, 93, of Oxford will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 2:00pm in the Toby Miller Memorial Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the Funeral Home. Mr. Ford passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 peacefully at home. Pallbearers will be John David Ford, Isiah Lloyd, Milton Ford, Jr. Ronald Ford, Terry Ford, and Jeffery Thomas. He was born May 10, 1927 to John W. Ford, Sr. and Audrey Marie Ford in Eulaton. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Johnny Ford, Elmer Ford, Herschel Ford, sister Audrey Montsesano, and grandson Blake Ezell. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Doris Allison Ford, daughter Anne Ford Key of Anniston, sons David Ford (Jo Rhea), Glenn Ford (Rhonda), of Oxford, Mike Ezell (Bethany) of Lithia, Fl, grandchildren Dee Dee Lloyd (Chris) of Anniston, John David Ford of Rogers, AR, Meagan Ford of Oxford, Jacob Ezell (Keri) of Lithia, Fl, three greatgrandchildren, sisters Mary Lavender of Homewood, Sara Thomas (Lilburn) of Anniston, brother Milton Ford (Judy) of Anniston, several nieces and nephews and his beloved fur baby, Molly. Mr. Ford was retired from Anniston Army Depot and later the Oxford School system, where he drove a school bus for many years. In earlier years, he worked at the GE plant in Oxford. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and also attended Faith Baptist Church in Coldwater. Until the pandemic disrupted life, he and his wife were part of a group that visited local skilled care facilities each week to sing hymns for residents and volunteered at the Oxford Senior Center. Over the years, he frequently attended and participated in gospel singings. He was known for his skills tossing horseshoes and won trophies in numerous tournaments. In recent years, he started taking part in 5Ks and was the oldest finisher in the Woodstock 5K for several years. His last was in 2017 when he led four generations, ranging in age from 12 to 90. The family extends thanks to Encompass Home Health and Hospice and a special thanks to private caregiver Beth Slick.
