Mrs. Florence Olivia Mockabee Champion, better know as Libby or Maw Maw, was promoted to Glory on Monday, October 29, 2018 surrounded by those she loved most. Mrs. Champion leaves behind to cherish her memory and reminisce on good times her husband of 56 years, Wayne Champion; her boys, Artie Champion and his wife Julie, Reese Champion and his wife Cindy, and Keith Champion and his wife Matina; her granddaughters that she was so proud of, Whitney Champion, Amber Champion Danelutt and her husband Justin, Eve Ann Champion Blohm and her husband Jeff, Autumn Champion Ponder and her husband Dean, and Ada Belle Champion; a great grandson who was just shy of being spoiled by her, Evan Blohm; a great granddaughter that will never have the pleasure of receiving a back scratch from her Maw Maw, Everly Blohm; brothers, Steve Mockabee and his wife Elixis and Bill Mockabee and his wife Debra; her fur baby, Harley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. She is greeted in Heaven by her parents, Louis and Lois Mockabee, and a nephew, Matthew Mockabee. Mrs. Champion was a strong Christian woman, who instilled the love of Christ into her family and friends. She grew up in the Salvation Army, working in the thrift store and offices and then playing the piano during Sunday services. She then went on to attend Faith Baptist Church in Coldwater and finally made her home church Hillcrest Baptist in Anniston. She always let her family know that she was praying for them and never let them forget that God loves us more. Maw Maw was a true southern woman. She cooked for her family every weekend, making sure they had their favorite meal on their birthday weekend. Meals always included at least one dessert and her sweet tea and no one ate before the food was prayed over. She was the last to eat, making sure everyone (even those not present) had a plate fixed before her. Even into her last days, she was putting others before herself. . We will miss her tremendously, but rest in the fact that she is sitting at the throne of her Father and that we will see her later. A service will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home with her brother, Bill Mockabee, and Sunday school teacher, Randy Bentley, officiating. The family will receive friends on the same day from 4:00 pm to 6:00pm. At Mrs. Champion’s request, she will be cremated after her service. The family would like to extended a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Heslin and his staff at UAB, to Dr. Spremulli and her staff at RMC, and to the nurses and staff in the ICU at RMC. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Salvation Army or the Jeremiah Foundation at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
