Funeral services for Vergie Skinner, 95 of Oxford will be Monday, April 10, 2023, at 12:00pm at Miller Funeral Home with Steve Hicks officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at Anniston Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. After a brief illness, Vergie went from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Wednesday April 5, 2023. Preceding her in death is her husband of 66 years, Deward Skinner; parents, Virgil and Alice Stevens; brothers, Louie Buice (Lucille) and Mildred, mother of his children; Julius Stephens (Ressie) and Dewey Stephens (Ann); sisters, Frances Reaves (Lee) and Betty Williams (Jimmy); granddaughter, Andrea Skinner Miller who is rejoicing with her grandmother now. Vergie is survived by her sons, Larry (Gail) Skinner, Don (Sissy) Skinner; grandchildren, Stephen (Beth) Skinner, Marc (Misty) Skinner, Katy (Joel) Van Meter, Jonathan (Abby) Skinner; great grandchildren, Callen Brown, Pierce Van Meter, Samuel Skinner, Silas Skinner, Ellen Birdie Van Meter, Everly Skinner, Seth Skinner, John Marc Skinner; and many nieces and nephews. Vergie was a 1947 graduate of Oxford High School. She was employed by GE from 1953-1961 and retired from Anniston Sportswear in 1989. After retirement, she worked at the Surgery Center in Oxford and Autumn Cove. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Saks for almost 30 years. She was our lovely precious jewel: Her life was one of devotion and service to the Lord Jesus, teaching Sunday School and visitation ministries. Devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren and family, she had a servant’s heart, was gracious, kind and endearing to all who knew her. She had a long incredible life. Proverbs 3:15: “She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.” Proverbs 31:10: “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:28: “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” We call her Grandmother, Grandmurry, Mudder, Mother, GaGa, and Blessed. Pallbearers will be Stephen Skinner, Marc Skinner, Jonathan Skinner, Pierce Van Meter, Joel Van Meter, and Ronald Hicks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dennis Buice and Samuel Skinner.
