Shirley Ellis

Bynum--Funeral services for Shirley Bentley Ellis, 69, of Bynum will be on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Ms. Ellis died on Monday at her residence. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rick Reaves and Rev. Jerry Starling officiating. Burial will be at the Antioch Baptist Cemetery in Eastaboga. She is survived by a daughter, Tawana Ellis (Kris); son, Jamie Ellis; sisters, Pat Webb (Roger) and Becky Bunn (Kenny); brother, Chris Bentley (Jessica); former husband, Jimmy Ellis; five step-children; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Chass Bunn, Gregg Webb, Kenny Bunn, Roger Webb, Wayne Reynolds, and Dale Fite. Shirley had a long career in the nursing profession and was employed by CTC. She was a loyal member of Hill Crest Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School class. The Agape class will serve as honorary pallbearers and this is a testimony of her love for this class and the love of this class for her. Shirley’s compassion for people in need extended beyond her nursing career. She was a regular volunteer at the Baptist Service Center and also supported this ministry through regular donations of money, food and clothing. Shirley enjoyed Southern gospel music and often traveled throughout the area with her mother and other family members to attend concerts. Her life was devoted to serving God, her family, and others. Her love for her extended family was evidenced by the many gifts she gave them on special occasions. Shirley truly had the gift of loving and sharing. When you thought about Shirley, you always thought about her giving spirit, but you also quickly thought of her avid devotion to the Auburn Tigers. Shirley always got season tickets to the football games and followed the team at home as well as at many of the away games. Her car, home, and clothes were always adorned with the Auburn Tiger logos. She was looking forward to the upcoming football season and now will be leading the cheers from her front row seat in heaven.
