Nina Polk Burns

Nina Polk Burns, 67, of Bynum, Alabama passed away unexpectedly in her home on Friday, December 23, 2016. Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home of Oxford, Alabama on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 6 PM to 8 PM. The funeral service will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Dennis Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Cemetery in Bynum. Nina was born in Talladega, Alabama to Delno and Christine Polk on June 25, 1949. She graduated from Oxford High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Jacksonville State University. Nina married to Donald Burns on December 29, 1973; they were married for 33 years. Nina worked for Herbert Cunningham for over 30 years and for the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for the past decade. She enjoyed travailing and gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Nina is survived by her sons; Matthew , Jonathan and Andrew (and his wife Amy); her grandchildren; Luke, Ashlyn and Asa; her mother Christine Polk; brother, Mike Polk (and his wife Paula); and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and family. She was a member of Bynum Baptist Church since since its founding and served as treasurer for the past two decades. Nina is survived by her sons Matthew, Jonathan and Andrew (and wife Amy); her grandchildren Luke, Ashlyn and Asa; her mother Christine Polk; brother Mike Polk (and wife Paula); and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and family. Nina was preceded in death by her father Delno Polk and husband Lt. Col. Donald Burns.
