Mrs. Nellie 'Nell' Poland Lumpkin

A graveside service for Mrs. Nellie ‘Nell’ Poland Lumpkin, 86 of Oxford, will be on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2:30 pm at Forestlawn Memorial Gardens. Pastor Steve Johnson will be officiating. The family will receive friends on the same day from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Mrs. Lumpkin passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2025 at RMC surrounded by family. She is survived by her son, Christopher Lumpkin; granddaughter, Kasey Bittle (Anthony); six great grandchildren, Mason, Ansleigh, Ruthie, Emery, Maverick, and Copelynn Bittle; sister, Ann Knight; brothers, James Poland (Judy) and Ronnie Poland (Donna); daughter in law, Gina Lumpkin; sister and brother in law, Shirley and Doug Gibson; sister in law, Shirley Lumpkin, several nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends who she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Lumpkin; son, James ‘Dwayne’ Lumpkin; infant son, Larry Lumpkin; parents, James and Alma Poland; mother and father in law, James and Lilda Lumpkin and brothers in law, Ray Knight and Ed Lumpkin. Pallbearers will be Anthony Bittle, Mason Bittle, Lamar Poland, Clint Gallahar, James Poland, and Ronnie Poland. Mrs. Lumpkin was blessed to have shared 65 years of marriage with her sweetheart James Lumpkin. Together they had two loving sons. She skillfully managed theaters in Calhoun County, including the Ritz Theater. At Ft McClellan in Anniston, she advised soldiers as a financial counselor. God gifted her with a multitude of talents which she used to uplift those around her. Painting landscapes and flowers was her passion. Her way with words brought forth thoughtful poems and unique stories. Gardening was an art form to her as she proudly displayed her beautiful flowers. Cooking was another outlet for her creativity, as she had perfected the art of Southern cuisine. Her fondest memories were of times spent on the Coosa River, where she loved fishing with her sister Ann and watching sunsets. She cherished life's simple joys. She treasured her family and friendships, recognizing that they are life's greatest gifts. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever inspire those who knew her.
