A funeral service for Mrs. Mary Julia Purdy Payton ‘Judy’, 73 of Oxford, Alabama will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Toby Miller Chapel at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford, AL with Reverend Tim Lynch and grandson, Draven Campbell officiating followed with a graveside service at Coldwater Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford, Alabama. Mrs. Payton passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at her home. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Payton and her children Justin Campbell (Tammy), Jeffery Campbell (Donna), Scott Payton (Tab), Danny Payton (Kelly) and Stacy Payton Ratliff; Grandchildren, Kristi McBurnett (Tanner), Corbyn Evans (Alex), Austin Campbell (Ashley), Draven Campbell, Britteny Canada (Justin), Destiny Payton (Alex), Andrea Angle (Justin), Kaylen Wilson, Kirby Payton, Foster Payton, CJ Payton and Payton Ratliff; Great Grandchildren, Makenzie, Shyla, Elli, Madison, Jack, Carter, Eden, Charlie, Layton, Hazel, Easton, Harland and Hudson. Her sisters; Faye Baughn (Clarence), Perry Heath (David) and a brother Tracy Purdy (Karen). She is preceded in death by her parents, James Clifford Purdy and Mary Tom Purdy; Sisters, Gwen Simpson and Linda ‘LaLa’ Terrell and her fur babies Rosebud and Buster Payton. Pallbearers will be grandsons Austin Campbell, Draven Campbell, Payton Ratliff, Foster Payton, Tanner McBurnett, Alex Evans, Justin Canada, Justin Angle and Alex Wallace. She was loved by her big family immensely. She had a passion for Art and had a widespread talent in many different applications and she absolutely poured it into all the grand kids through the years. She excelled in the Mammy department beyond all expectations. She followed in Pop’s footsteps in that she loved to travel and was always up for a good backroad adventure. She was always ready for any new opportunity that would provide for a great shopping trip for all the new outfits for herself and anybody she could drag with her. When you went shopping with Judy, you better be in it for the long haul. She was one of the most generous people in the world, she loved sending you away with all the things whether you wanted them or not. She would NOT take no for an answer. In the words one of her grands “Mammy always wanted you to feel loved”. The family would like to thank Affinity Hospice of Pell City for the compassionate care provided to Mammy over the past six months. A special thank you to Jennifer Abbott, Sharanda Threatt, Amanda Talley, Servie Wilson and Mike Britton.
