Mr. Mark Huey Smith

Mr. Smith was a Limestone County, Alabama native having lived in Anniston since the 1950’s. After graduating from Walter Wellborn High School in 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Faye (Phillips) Smith. They were married for over 60 years, until she passed away in 2019. He was inducted into the Army where he served as chief computer fire direction center 77th artillery. After the Army, Mr. Smith worked at the Anniston Army Depot for 35 years where he advanced to chief storage branch ammunition division director. He was a past member of American Legion post 56 at Bynum, scout master at Coldwater Pack 103, AARP National association of retired federal employees 353 at Oxford, coached at the Boys Club in Eulaton and Bynum youth activities. He was an avid supporter of the Walter Wellborn High School band in the mid to late 80's. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot in 1995. He received many commendations and letters of appreciation from both the Depot and foreign dignitaries. Mr. Smith was a lover of all animals and had a passion for gardening and fishing. He never met a stranger and had a tender heart for everyone. Mr. Smith was very patriotic and loved his country. He is survived by his son, Phillip A. Smith (Lynn); daughter, Kelli G. Smith; 2 grandchildren, Lydia Marie Smith Lester (Noah) and Stephen P. Smith (Kathleen); 2 great grandchildren, Iris and Nora Smith; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Faye Smith; daughter, Pamela Lynn Smith; parents, Arthur C. and Myrtle L. Smith; four brothers, J.C., Doyle, Alex, and William Smith. The family would like to express a special thank you to Linda Baker for the last five years of caring, loving, and going above and beyond for Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The family would also like to thank the neighbors of Bynum Acres subdivision and friends from the Anniston Army Depot for their many years of friendship. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Miller Funeral Home from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. A funeral service will be held same day at 2:00pm. A graveside service will follow at Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery.
