"Coach" Larry Skinner

“Coach” Larry Skinner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, coach, and friend left us unexpectedly on October 12, 2024, at the age of 77. Larry’s journey began in Anniston, Alabama, where he was born and later graduated from Oxford High School in 1965. He went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Jacksonville State University, dedicating his entire professional life to serving others in the field of education. Larry’s career spanned decades and included roles as a teacher, principal, coach, and administrator. His influence reached many schools, including Trinity Christian Academy, Anniston City Schools, and Saks High School. He was not just an educator; he was a beacon of faith, character, and leadership. His passion for coaching extended beyond the court; he inspired people to strive for greatness in all aspects of life. His beloved passions included his Faith, family, coaching, and cars. Married 55 years, he and his wife Gail (Rosamond) raised three incredible children, who are in turn raising “the magnificent seven,” their grandchildren. An avid GTO lover, he loved restoring old cars, and he was proud of the home that he and Gail restored as well. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Deward and Vergie Skinner and his niece, Andrea Skinner Miller. He is survived by his wife, Gail; their children – Stephen (Beth), Marc (Misty), and Katy Van Meter (Joel); grandchildren – Samuel, Silas and Seth (Stephen), John Marc and Everly (Marc), and Pierce and Birdie (Katy); his brother, Don Skinner (Sissy), nephew, Jonathan(Abby). Beyond family, he leaves behind countless former players and friends. To them he was a hero, a mentor and a second dad. He left a profound legacy of generational faith, generosity, diligence, and faithfulness. He was our rock, our protector, and our safe place—qualities that defined him as a father and a guiding force in our lives. He led his family to the cross, showing us the importance of faith in every situation. His presence was powerful, he commanded respect and his wisdom is something we will hold on to forever. A funeral service for "Coach" Larry Skinner will be Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Hill Crest Baptist Church in Anniston starting at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends two hours prior. A graveside service will follow at Dogwood Trail Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Brother Eric Snider will be officiating the services.
