Camellia Cooper

Camellia Cooper 10-3-1945 – 03-05-2016 She was born in Nashville, TN and went to be with her Lord on March 5, 2016. She resided most of her life in Oxford, AL and graduated from Oxford High School and Jacksonville State University with a degree in Education and Music. She was a Marching Southerner while at Jacksonville State University and taught public school in Huntsville, AL, owned several businesses, including Southern Machinery & Supply Co in Oxford. She was dedicated to Animal Rescue for over 35 years. She was a Charter Member of The League For Animal Welfare and served as the 1st President of the rescue group. She was also on the Board of the Calhoun County Humane Society. Ms. Cooper was involved in local politics for many years and served as Chairman of the Republican Executive Committee. She was the 1st Co-Chair of the Calhoun County Christian Coalition. Ms. Cooper was a member of the Church of Christ and her faith provided direction in her life in whatever she did. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for several years as well. Ms. Cooper was a Charter Member of Bettaview Hills Church of Christ and was presently a member of Saks Church of Christ. Ms. Cooper, a very humble Christian herself left a legacy of Christ’s instructions to love God and love others. In lieu of flowers, she requested donation be made to the Saks Church of Christ or gifts of dog or cat food may be left at the church to continue her legacy of feeding the strays of Calhoun County. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 8, 2016, 2:00 PM in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Richard O’Connor will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestlawn Gardens. Visitation will be from 12 until service time at the funeral home. Ms. Cooper is survived by great friend and caregiver, W. Tim Poole, cousins, Harry Cooper and his wife Linda of Oxford, Cindy Armstrong and sons, Brandon and Hunter of Heflin, Phillip Cooper and his wife Marie, their children, Scott and Tammy, Jeff Cooper and his late wife Wendy and their children, Emily and Logan, close friend, Susan Vickery of Anderson, SC, and many other friends, cousins, caregivers and her beloved pets. She was preceded in death by her parents, James T and Mary A Cooper.
