Agnes Skinner

Agnes Skinner, age 79 of Glencoe, AL, went Home to be with Jesus on March 15, 2021. She is the wife of Gerald Skinner also of Glencoe, AL. She had 2 sons, Larry Thomas of Piedmont, AL, and Luke (Charlita) Thomas of Piedmont, AL. She had 2 daughters, Linda Peters of Glencoe, AL, and Lisa (Byron) Durham of Eastaboga, AL. She had 3 stepsons, Gerald (Vicky) Skinner Jr. (deceased) of Mechanicsville, MD, Tim (Nicole) Skinner of Manhattan, KS, David Skinner of Junction City, KS. She had 2 stepdaughters, Janine (Luis) Rivera of Rosalie, KS, and Sondra (Roy) Baldreras of Vandalia, IL. She also had 2 brothers, Clyde (Connie) Lewis and Simmie (Phyllis) Lewis of Oxford, AL. Miss Agnes loved all her 25 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren in 14 different states. She was a long-time member of Antioch Baptist Church where she was saved and baptized in March of 1957. She graduated from Munford High School in 1960. She spent many years raising a family in the Oxford area. She spent 30 years and 1 day of her life working at the Anniston Army Depot as a tank mechanic. The last year before she retired, she met and married Jerry Skinner of Junction City, KS. They enjoyed 18 years together. Retiring within 3 days of each other, they spent 15 years traveling in all 50 states and several countries. They lived in Oxford, AL, for a few years then thought they would get more centrally located to their children and moved to Hot Springs Village, a retirement village, in Arkansas. They enjoyed their work there at Barcelona Road Baptist Church. Jerry was reinstated as a deacon. He and Agnes lead the visitation program at Barcelona Road. They really enjoyed their work there. Miss Agnes was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in the Spring of 2014. The prognosis was 2 - 5 years remaining. They kept serving there until 4 years ago. They decided to move back here to be closer to their family. Miss Agnes was a cheerleader for Jesus. She enjoyed cooking, running, and visiting. She started competing in 5 and 10 k runs when she was 40. She kept this up for as long as she could, winning many trophies. When they got back to Glencoe, they joined North Glencoe Baptist Church and were involved there, but it was not long before the fibrosis started progressing. She and Jerry volunteered and served on the advisory board at The George Wallace Senior Center where they helped with the lunches and Miss Agnes helped with the line dancing and cardio exercise. After their trip to the Holy Land in 2019, her health began to decline. She fought the good fight. She finished her race. She kept her faith. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery at 2650 McIntosh Rd, Oxford, AL 36203. Bro. Thom Harrison and Bro. Ronnie Moore will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Kaleb Rivera, Carlos Rivera, Byron Durham, Mark Harper, Horace Carson, and David Holmes. In lieu of flowers, please wear red to the service in honor of Agnes’s love of anything and everything red, or donations can be made to Amedisys Hospice at 115 W Grand Ave, Rainbow City, AL 35906. “Jesus loves you and I do too.”
